Dissertationspreis
for outstanding results in the research of applications of computer science
in social systems.

Applications of computer science are increasingly penetrating the world of work and life. This poses new challenges for computer science as a scientific discipline, both in terms of development and evaluation methods and the design of IT artefacts. It must understand the complexity of social application contexts in order to be able to design innovative IT applications appropriately. The study of appropriation processes can become an important source of inspiration for iterative design.
The prize is awarded to dissertations that provide important insights for the design of innovative technical artefacts in interaction with the social systems that apply them. Quality criteria are both the quality of the information technology design and the empirical validation of the technical concepts in requirements analysis and/or evaluation. The (international) publication of selected results of the dissertation is expressly desired.
The prize is endowed with 1,500 euros and is awarded every second year at the conference’Mensch & Computer’ – starting with M&C 2011. The submission deadline is 15 June before the respective conference. The selection decision is made by a jury, which is determined and chaired by the spokesperson of the GI-CSCW section and the chairman of the IISI.
Next submission deadline is 15.6.2015 at the latest.
Submissions should include a list of the applicant’s scientific publications as well as a dissertation and curriculum vitae. A letter of recommendation from a colleague is also welcome.
